American Curls are medium-sized cats, with females weighing between 5–8 lb (2.3–3.6 kg) and males 7–10 lb (3.2–4.5 kg). The breed’s most distinctive feature is its ears, which are born straight but begin to curl within forty-eight hours. By four months, their ears will not curl any longer, and should be hard and stiff to the touch at the base of the ear with flexible tips. Both longhaired and shorthaired American Curls have soft, silky coats which lie flat against their bodies.
