Oriental Longhair

The Oriental Longhair is a variety of domestic cat that is closely related to the Oriental Shorthair. In some registries, such as The International Cat Association (TICA), it is considered a separate breed. The breed was formerly known as the British Angora before being renamed in 2002 to avoid confusion with the Turkish Angora.

Oriental Longhairs feature a long, tubular, Oriental-style body but with a longer silky coat. The range of possible coat colours is vast, including self-coloured (black, blue, chocolate, lilac, cinnamon, caramel, fawn, red, cream, and apricot), tortoiseshell, smoke (silver undercoat), shaded or tipped, tabby or white. Their eyes are almond-shaped, with the preferred eye color being green, except for the whites, which may have green or blue eyes, or be odd-eyed (two different colored eyes).
Oriental Longhairs are active cats that enjoy playing. They are agile and elegant, often jumping without breaking any objects. They are extremely intelligent and make ideal companions for people who like their pets always around. Many Orientals take to leash training quickly if started young.
Oriental Longhairs are known for their loyalty and get along well with other cats, especially if they are of the same breed group. They are not adapted to a life of living alone and prefer an interactive home. Some Orientals tend to gravitate to one person in the home. They have loud and expressive voices that are used often.
Oriental Longhairs require regular grooming due to their long, silky coat. They are generally healthy cats, but regular vet check-ups are essential to ensure their well-being. They also require a balanced diet and plenty of playtime to keep them physically and mentally stimulated.
